In Memoriam: Mars Williams (1955-2023)
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of one of the kindest, genuinely joyful and sincere musicians with whom we have had the pleasure to work. Mars Williams, legendary saxophonist who spanned the worlds of jazz, rock, soul, improvisation, and composition, died in Chicago on Monday, November 20th. Whether giving 100% in a performance, collaborating on the production of his next album, or simply catching up on the phone, Mars was always thinking of the next project while simultaneously taking time to be in the present. Despite his international renown, Mars was real with everyone he encountered. His humble nature and spirit of gratitude gave him a rare approachability that touched many.
Thank you for the music, the conversation, and the laughs. You are already greatly missed.
